Shaker Trestle Table

The trestle table comes in two flavors, Solid or knock-down style.

This Shaker Style trestle table was commissioned for a customer on Cape Cod. They wanted the typical breadboard ends, arched feet and specifically requested the cross brace location and mortised flush with the ends of the legs. The wood of choice was cherry and the dimensions are 72L x 37.5W x 30H.

The price of this table is $1,399.

The location of the cross brace was dictated by the customer and the flush mortised ends were by request as well. These ends were wedged with small pieces of Black Walnut to add some contrast.

The arched feet were typical with this table and the edges were chamfered to reduce the bulky feel. The chamfered edges make it more pleasing to the eye. The pegged mortise and tenon joint is noticeable at the top of the arched foot by the two dowels used to improve the structural integrity of the joint.

In the photo to the left, the uprights were trimmed with a subtle concave to both edges. This gives the table a more elegant appearance.

The table top exhibits breadboard ends, pegged with three dowels. The top boards were hand picked from various pieces of cherry which exhibit a slight curly effect. These pictures dont do the curl justice, however, with the right staining and oiling, the curl adds depth to the top of the table. The curl is most noticeable at the far end of the table on the second board from the right in the photo below.

This Shaker knock-Down Style trestle table was commissioned for a customer on San Jose California. They wanted the typical breadboard ends, arched feet and needed it shipped cross country. The tusk tenon allows for easy knock down of this table so it can be moved through doorways, up stairs or even, across the country. The wood of choice was cherry and the dimensions are 48L x 37.5W x 30H.

The price of this table is $1,399.

The cross brace in this table is mortised through the upright and held in place by the tusk. A tusk tenon allows for a small wedge to be gently tapped into place through the mortised cross brace and secures the legs in place. To remove, gently tap up on the bottom of the wedge and remove the brace. The dowels in the end of the tenon are added to prevent the wood from splitting in case someone taps the wedge a little too hard.

The arched feet were typical with this table and the edges were chamfered to reduce the bulky feel. The chamfered edges make it more pleasing to the eye. The pegged mortise and tenon joint is noticeable at the top of the arched foot by the two dowels used to improve the structural integrity of the joint.

Once the wedges are removed from the cross brace and the screws removed from the top, the table knocks down into a small little package for shipping or storage.

Each part of this table is shipped in a hand sewn felt bag. These bags can be re-used to store the table away if needed.
